Martin Luther King Speech (kinetic typography)
This is an excerpt from his famous speech. Its worth watching if you enjoy creativity sprinkled with humanity...
iCade - The Arcade Cabinet For iPad
Humans, they just love mixing the old with the new. To wit, the iCade gaming cabinet for the iPad, an April Fools' joke that was just a fun idea this time last year, has gone and turned very real, replete with FCC certification and now a pre-order page. The Bluetooth-communicating iPad enclosure seems to have originally been on sale for immediate delivery, but ThinkGeek has burned through its first shipment of units faster than you can say "Atari's Greatest Hits." The second batch of $100 iCades is expected by May 20th at the very latest, although orders are being taken only from the US for now. The rest of the world needn't despair, however -- we hear building one of your own is a pleasurable and rewarding experience.

Shamrock Shakes In The Chicago River
QR Codes + Restaurants = WalkIN
Name: WalkIN
Quick Pitch: Take the wait list with you and get notifications when your table is ready.
Genius Idea: Scan QR codes to save your place on multiple wait lists.
Proving that nine guys can successfully launch a startup in 48 hours on a bus, WalkIN is walking away from SXSW Interactive a big winner. The now one-week-old startup, which lets users save their places on restaurant wait lists by scanning a QR code at the door, shared the top prize in the StartupBus grand finale and is on its way to becoming a legitimate company.
The WalkIN experience is straightforward. Consumers use an iPhone or Android app to scan a QR code to reserve their place on the wait list. Merchants manage the queue via an iOS or HTML5 app, adjust wait times and manually add new guests to the list.
The first version of WalkIN launched at SXSW is QR code-only, but the founders now realize they need to add an SMS option to the service to reach all consumers.
The StartupBus environment helped make WalkIN a winning idea, says co-founder Bhavin Shah. “It was magic that was occurring,” he says. Team members naturally gravitated towards each other and worked harmoniously, circumstances that helped the nine guys evolve their ideas rapidly, beating out their competitors across the six-bus fleet.
Those excited by WalkIN’s promise to keep their place in the line should temper their enthusiasm for a more few weeks. Being just days old, WalkIN ins’t accessible to consumers just yet, though Shah explains that this will soon change. The startup is already talking to a handful of restaurants in New York, San Francisco and Sydney who are interested in testing the service in the coming weeks.
WalkIN’s idea is not entirely new, and there’s a smattering of competition in the virtual line space. But, with other startups such as Textaurant securing funding and no clear standout that owns the local merchant side of the equation, there’s plenty of opportunity here.
The young startup has fielded investment offers of its own, but has turned them down. WalkIN is going through a transition phase, according to Shah. Its unusual origins mean that team members must individually determine whether they want to peruse this full-time or keep their day jobs, he says.
Still, the startup is ready to graduate from the hyper-accelerator format of the StartupBus to a real-world environment. The team’s first order of business is to add new features, get merchants signed on and improve the overall user experience of the apps.

Inception - Woodcut Animation Video
This Gilliamesque 60-second adaptation of Inception uses delightful Victorian woodcuts to tell the story. It was an entry in a Jameson's whisky competition by Wolfgang Matzl.

Awesome Protest Sign at the Wisconsin Capitol Rally
If there's one thing we learned from the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert Rally to Restore Sanity, it's that geeks make the best protest signs—and they proved it again this week during the rally at the Wisconsin Capitol.

Short shorts at Superette
With both men and women now wearing their shorts at breathtaking heights, fashion chain Superette was presented with a unique opportunity to draw attention to their sale on short shorts. DDB Auckland ads were placed on the virgin thighs that are exposed in this latest trend, by putting indented plates across the inner city and fashion district bus stops, mall seats and park benches, so that when people sat down the message was imprinted on their thighs.
This meant that as well as having branded seats, a veritable army of free media was created for Superette, with thousands of imprints being created and lasting up to an hour. Plus, by the nature of where the ads were placed, only the hippest young cats were seen advocating the brand.

Probably not an effective medium, but I love the idea.
Nike Basketball: The Black Mamba
Bryant gets a piece of the action
Nike's Black Mamba film, starring Kobe Bryant, made its debut at the NBA All Star Weekend. The almost six-minute film, directed by action director Robert Rodriguez and with cameos from Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo and Kanye West, highlights the new Nike Zoom Kobe VI.
For the past month, teasers, trailers, digital, outdoor, and print drove consumers in the U.S. and China to RSVP for the official "premiere" and simulcast of the film online at 1am PST on Saturday, February 19. Fans can now also view the film on Nike Basketball's Facebook page, and Nike Basketball.com as well as YouTube. The film is also being showcased in several LA cinemas, including Mann's Chinese Theatre where Bryant was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame over the weekend.
In the film, the 'action movie' itself is woven into a script meeting between Rodriguez and Bryant – with plenty of Hollywood in-jokes surrounding which stars they can afford, and what kind of explosions are available to them.

Mr. Brainwash: Oscar Statuette
With Exit Through the Gift Shop (aka the Banksy movie) getting a Best Documentary Oscar nomination in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, in the wee hours one morning a few days later this large piece of street art showed up on La Brea at San Vicente, in the oft-used Mr. Brainwash space. There is, indeed, a Mr Brainwash signature next to the giant hoodie-shrouded Oscar statuette (at the end of a sidewalk red carpet, no less) and some showbiz-y busied Storm Troopers hanging around--err...hovering around from above, too.
Banksy: Charlie Brown Firestarter
Looks like street artist Banksy is not only very much in town, but also recapturing his youth. First, it was the "Crayola Shooter" in Westwood, and now it's Charlie Brown--a cheeky arsonist version--in Hollywood. The location of "Charlie Brown Firestarter" has been described as "on Sunset Boulveard" and "on an abandoned fire damaged building,"
These photos came to us via The Dirt Floor, and are used with their permission.

Banksy: Dog Urinating on Beverly Hills
![]()
A graffiti attributed to secretive British artist Banksy shows a dog urinating on a wall in Beverly Hills, California on February 17, 2011. Another graffiti was ripped down Wednesday in Hollywood, amid sightings of other pieces in a reported pre-Oscars publicity stunts. Banksy is nominated for best documentary for "Exit Through the Gift Shop" at the Oscars, due to be announced on Feb. 27 at the climax of Tinseltown's annual awards season.
Banksy: The Crayola Shooter
Like Animal, we don't really want to talk about the chances of Banksy showing his "face" at the Academy Awards on the 27th. Come on, now.
However, it does seem like the world-renowned street artist is in Los Angeles right now, after this likely piece of his cropped up. Who did the first spotting? None other than local "personality" Lauren Conrad, who Tweeted this shot of it last night, asking: "Is Banksy in LA?"
Jetset Graffiti says this piece is called "The Crayola Shooter."
[It has been reported the piece has been defaced with a huge paint stain and tagged MBW by some art-destroying prick.]
