200 Years Advertising. 1 Infographic.

Feel like reliving all of advertising's big milestones, including major agency launches, mergers, and acquisitions since the 1830s? Sure you do. Thankfully, Aquent has done the work for you. The marketing and design staffing firm, with help from The Barbarian Group, has created the mother of all advertising infographics, charting the history of the business going back almost 200 years. Among the things you will learn:

  • JWT, founded in 1864, is America's oldest ad agency that is still open for business.
  • The first-ever TV commercial aired in 1941 for Bulova watches. It cost $9 to air.
  • Christmas advertising didn't exist until 1830. Before then, Christmas was a work and school day for Americans.
  • Pizza Hut offered online ordering four years before Google existed.
  • The first spam email was sent to 600 people in 1978.
Aquent provides this lovely infographic to promote its brand-new Vitamin T division, which will provide midsize companies and ad agencies with digital creative talent.
